So, you're finding delicate control with your mouse to be difficult? All you want to do is nudge the arrow on the screen by a fraction of an inch, but for some reason it keeps on jumping all over the place?
Well, here's a tip that applies to optical mice which emit a red glow and mechanical mice (the older type with a ball in the base).

To begin, turn the mouse on its back (reassure him by tickling his tummy). Look on the underside of your mouse. There will either be four pads (or ‘feet’) in the corners, or a couple of strips running across the top and bottom. If any gray gunk has accumulated on these, scrape it off and use some water (or that other popular cleaning solution – spit) to get them nice and clean.

That gunk (mostly made up of your old skin cells) is sticky and this makes the mouse stick to the mouse mat. Get rid of it and everything will run smoothly once again!

Do you share a computer with other users and want some extra security on your folders? There are two ways to password protect a folder built into Windows XP (for other Windows flavors, there are some freeware/shareware programs out there).
#1: If you have a log in password for your account, this can be used to protect folders from other users. Your hard drive must be formatted using NTFS (which it probably is unless you're dual booting with another operating system). Here's what to do...
Right-click the folder that you want to make private and choose "Properties" (or Alt+Double-click). Go to the "Sharing" tab and check the "Make this folder private" box.

Click Apply . If you do not have a password on your account, a box will pop up asking if you want to assign a password. This must be done if you want to make the folder private, so click Yes . You will need to use your password to log on to your computer from then on.
Type in a password then confirm it. Click the "Create Password" button then close the Password window.
Click OK in the Properties dialog box.
Now anyone else logged on to your computer can't access that file without knowing your password.
#2: If the Folder is Zipped you can give it a unique password.
Just double-click the zipped folder. In the top menu select File then click "Add a Password".

Type a password into the Password box. Then again in the "Confirm Password" box.

Now, you are the only person who can access files in this folder. The folder can be opened allowing the files to be seen, but you are the only one who can access them.

Problem:
Ccomputer just started making a strange sound when I turn it on. It sounds like rapid ticking or rattling (not hard drive sounds, either) and goes away after a few minutes.

Solution :
Sounds like a problem with one of your fans (no, not the people who love you, the ones that blow air).
Your computer probably has two internal fans - one that sits on top of the CPU and one inside your power supply. Most of the time the sound you're describing comes from the fan in the power supply. They can make that annoying noise for a long time before they finally belly up and die.
However, if it's your CPU fan, you may have a serious issue. If that puppy dies, your CPU can turn to toast in a hurry (and trust me, they're not very good with butter and jelly).
So, the best advice is to wait till your computer is completely cooled off and remove the case cover. Turn the computer on and see if you can determine where the sound is coming from. If it's the CPU fan, that'll need replaced.
If it's the power supply fan, you'll need to replace the entire power supply to get rid of the noise. If you think you're going to open the power supply and fix the fan ? don't. They're not user serviceable. Besides, if you touch one of its capacitors on accident you'll take a nice little flight across the room.
You may want to listen to your hard drive too (it's the square, slim, box-looking thingy). The sound described in the question above probably isn't hard drive related, but it's always a good idea to give it a quick listen.
Remember, most of the time these power supply fans still work for years after they start rattling, so usually there's no rush - just keep a close eye on it. If that fan dies, your computer can overheat in a hurry.
Oh, after you're done playing with your machines innards, be sure to put the cover back on. Believe it or not, your computer can overheat with the cover off. The computer is designed to pull air through the case in a certain pattern. If there's no cover, the airflow is all wrong and things don't cool as they should.

If you use computers a lot, you probably find yourself out in the real world wishing you had an Undo command (you know, like just before you're about to smash your new car). Well, the "universal" undo shortcut is: Ctrl+Z.

Ctrl+Z is normally used in word processing documents, but it also works just about anywhere in windows. Let's say you accidentally drag an icon to your desktop and really wish you had it to do over. Well, hit Ctrl+Z and the icon vacates your desktop and jumps back to wherever it was before.
Works with Windows Explorer too. Let's say you accidentally delete a file. Instead of going to the recycle bin to recover it, hit Ctrl+Z .

Note that this only works if you are sending the file to the recycle bin. If you hold down the Shift key while you delete, thus bypassing the recycle bin, the file is gone for good. All the Ctrl+Z ing in the world won't help.

In most programs, Ctrl+Z will undo whatever it was that you just did. Bad thing is that many programs only give you one or two of these "undos." Then you're stuck—or are you?
One clever way to make sure you can always go back is to save your file frequently (a simple Ctrl+S will do it)—especially if you're about to make some big changes. Then if you really mess up good, just close the file and DON'T SAVE IT.

When you open it back up, you'll be back to the way it was when you last saved. This is really handy if you're playing around with image manipulation and are "testing" different effects.
If you want to take this to the next level, you may want to save your file under a different name each time. After all, when it comes to computers, you just can't be too paranoid.
I know, this all may seem incredibly obvious, but I can't tell you the number of times I've seen people waste half an hour trying to get a document back to the way it was originally when they could have just used this tip.

You know, maybe you downloaded something you shouldn't have
or you installed a new program that just doesn't agree with your computer.

Either way, a great feature to use in those types of situations
is the Windows XP System Restore.

With the System Restore, you can go back to a previous time on your computer,
without losing any of your documents, pictures, e-mails or anything!

The System Restore is able to keep track of any changes you may make
to your system and it automatically creates what are called "restore points" for you.
These points allow you to travel back to a time when your system was
in a more stable condition.

To bring up the System Restore feature, all you have to do is
go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools
and then click System Restore.
You must be logged in as the Administrator as well.

Also, make sure you close down any other open programs and
save all your files before you begin.
When you're ready, select the button that says
"Restore my computer to an earlier time."
Then click Next.
The days you see in bold type are days that have restore points.

Select the day you want to go back to and click Next.
Windows will then shut down and restart, with the settings from the date chosen.
Pretty slick, huh?!

Even though the System Restore feature automatically creates restore points,
it is also a good idea to manually create some when you are making any
major changes to your computer.

To do this, select the button marked "Create a Restore Point"
on the first screen and then click Next.
Give the restore point a name and then click Create.
The new point will be stamped with the current date and time.

So, as you can see, if you ever run into any problems with your computer,
you have a safety net thanks to this little feature.

I can't even remember how many times it has saved me.
It's surely not something you want to forget about any time soon!

A NOTE :
Wow!!!! And to add my own two bit, I have used System restore
so many times whenever the settings seemed messed up and
I was unable to locate the problem ... I would always restore it
to the most recent restore point ... That way, very few changes would
be made and my system would be restored with very few changes ...

One point though, I need to update my Anti-virus again from the restore point
as it is also restored to the same point and it behaves as though it has no
updates since that date ... I use AVG anti virus ..
Keep this point in mind and update your antivirus if you use this facility ...

How to use create HTML File

You will get a brief presentation of the tools you need to make a website.
What is needed?
You have a "browser". A browser is the program that makes it possible to browse and open websites. Right now you are looking at this page in your browser.
It is not important which browser you use. The most common is Microsoft Internet Explorer. But there are others such as Opera and Mozilla Firefox and they can all be used.
Instead, you need a simple text editor. If you are using Windows you can use Notepad, which is usually found in the start menu under Programs in Accessories:

Notepad is a very basic text editing program which is excellent for coding because it does not interfere with what you are typing. It gives you complete control. A browser and Notepad (or a similar simple text editor) are all you need to go through this tutorial and make your own websites.

What is HTML?

HTML is a language, which makes it possible to present information (e.g. scientific research) on the Internet. What you see when you view a page on the Internet is your browser's interpretation of HTML. To see the HTML code of a page on the Internet, simply click "View" in the top menu of your browser and choose "Source".

Examining HTML Structure:

HTML page are save with .html or .htm extension and contains HTML statements. HTML documents are identifying by the starting and ending tags. The first tags appear at the top of the tag indicate that this is an HTML page. The last tag appears at the bottom of the document and identifies the end of the page. HTML tags are not case sensitive. This means that , and are the same thing. HTML documents are divided into two main sections, the head and body, as shown in the following examples.

Now we will save this file on desktop. Click on "Save As" button.

Name your file with .html extension. For example, "Index.html" .

Now, your html file is created on your desktop. Open your "index.html" file.
